Artist Statement

As an artist I am drawn to colour and bold designs. I use art as a means of expression and exploration for both my internal and external world. My goal with my work is to connect with

the earth and capture the freedom and strength it provides me.I paint intuitively, and this helps me to feel my way through each piece of my work. Using abstracts, I capture the natural world around me both physically and in spirit. I enjoy playing with a variety of mediums including acrylic, mixed media, and photography.

My style developed out my need to break free from the technical constraints and limitations of formal training. I am exploring the elements of composition and design through texture, layering, and colour. Being creative is challenging, both in personal pursuit of creativity and in finding time to be creative in an otherwise very busy life. I meet this challenge by making time to be creative and finding coping strategies to manage personal struggles so that I can be successful in my artistic pursuit.
